Elephants are the largest living land mammals. They are massive herbivores with grey skin, long trunks, with which to feed, drink and breathe,  and sharp tusks, with which to fight and strip bark from trees. The African species has larger ears, while the Indian species has the smaller ears. Both live in grasslands and in jungles and are very social animals, living in herds led by a mature female called a matriarch. Both species are endangered because of hunting.
