Karnak is a site for ruins of the temples of ancient Egypt, and was the setting for the events that transpired in 1933, when a cultist group led by Imhotep stopped to set up camp for one night.

Forbidden City

Made largely of ancient ruins, Karnak was located in the Sahara Desert along the banks of the Nile river. Temple pillars and pools of water were located in Karnak, as were railroad tracks, and the ruins were marked with great stone pillars.

History

Alex O'Connell had put on the Bracelet of Anubis, which led the way to find the Scorpion King; the Bracelet also showed the wearer the steps that needed to be taken in order to reach the Oasis of Ahm Shere. One such location that was on the way to the Oasis was Karnak, which Alex visited when he was taken hostage by a group of cultists. Alex seized his chance to escape their clutches when he pulled the emergency brake on the train that the cultists were travelling in, halting the train. Once Alex had tried to run away, two armed cultist thugs began firing at him with machine guns. Imhotep, the leader of the cult, had used his supernatural powers to force the two thugs into two large pillars, killing them off.

Alex was soon caught by Imhotep, who admonished the boy silently and had him chained at the ankle later that night as the cultist group camped out in the ruins. Alex seized his chance to inform his parents, who were looking for him, as to his next whereabouts when the taciturn cultist enforcer Lock-Nah brought Alex water. Alex quickly spilled the whole of the pitcher of water onto the sand and sculpted a sand castle of the temple island of Philae, which was hidden from sight of the cultists by means of Alex's necktie.
