Located on the banks of the Nile, Thebes was once the capital of ancient Egypt and was populated by many, being a thriving city filled with merchants, nobles, and assorted townspeople. Thebes was also the site of the temples of Luxor and Karnak.

History
Thebes was the final target of the warlord known as Scorpion King at one point, as the Scorpion King had marched up to the gates of Thebes with five thousand soldiers, intending to dominate. Thebes' soldiers, however, proved too strong to best, putting up a long bloody battle that lasted the whole of seven years, at which point the remaining soldiers and the Scorpion King himself were banished to the deserts of Ahm Shere, where they all expired, save for the Scorpion King himself, who struck a bargain with the god Anubis; in exchange for the god sparing the Scorpion King's life, the warlord would conquer more lands and build a temple of gold in honour of Anubis. Anubis accepted, and the Scorpion King returned to Thebes with a full army that destroyed all that lay before them, and killed countless people. Thebes was taken, but the Scorpion King could not be around to enjoy his victory; Anubis claimed the Scorpion King's soul and sent his armies back to the sands from whence they came.

More than one thousand years later, Thebes was restored and under the rule of the Pharaoh Seti I, who had entrusted his daughter Nefertiri to guard the Scorpion King's remaining possession: the Bracelet of Anubis, which was known to have carried powers. Seti, however, was betrayed and murdered by his concubine Anck-Su-Namun and the High Priest of Osiris, Imhotep.

Years later, Thebes was a dig site for many Egyptologists and scholars, Jonathan Carnahan lying by stating that he had found artifacts there.
